Happy Sewer Update

On my last posting I mentioned the sewer problem we were having late Friday evening; namely that all of the liquids that were leaving our home were backing up into the pipes and squirting through the foundation walls back into the basement.

The inner sanctum of belief and unbelief

It’s 10:49 p.m. on Friday night.  We had a great Thanksgiving Day celebration and a relaxing Friday.  I already had the title to this blog written down and my subject decided upon when my son came in to inform me that the toilet would not flush, or rather that the water would not go down when [...]

Thanksgiving: Mike’s Top Ten List

I am officially taking Thanksgiving Day off from this blog thing.   But before I do I wanted to make a top ten list of things that I am thankful for this year, in ascending order:

Put a paper bag over my head?

Two days from now will mark the first complete month of my six month jail term of no driving.  When I say jail I mean it.  It feels like solitary confinement in a maximum security prison with no food and bluegrass music being piped in day and night.  It’s the law in Iowa that a [...]

It’s no coincidence that I am finishing up a sermon series this week on “Inquiring of God.”  Back in September I began this series of messages that was intended to encourage us all to earnestly inquire (seek) of God on the everyday things of life…you know, the essentially non-moral things

Losses and Crosses

Writing this blog thus far has been a very interesting experience. First, because I had no idea so many people would be interested in jumping into the wagon with us and going on a ride.  And second, because it has made me more keenly aware of the losses and crosses that people bear in their everyday lives, [...]
