This blog was begun in early November 2008 shortly after I was diagnosed with a large arteriovenous malformation in my brain. I originally began blogging because I had always wanted to do so and having this brain anomaly gave me the impetus to put this idea into reality. I wanted to share my heart and mind and emotions with whomever was interested. From November 2008 until Feb. 12, 2009 when I had the actual brain surgery I let you all into my space where there was faith, fear, and hopefully a good sense of humor as well. If you know the story the brain surgery was just the beginning of the nearly unbelievable trial this turned out to be as you will see if you go back and read the “summary” post. Forty-six days at Mayo later I returned home to the folks you see here! Here is my remarkable and beloved family 19 months post surgeries in August 2010. To God be the glory for the things He has done!

Mike this is your old friend and RAGBRAI buddy Kevin or “bonehead” as I was called back then. My thoughts and prayers are with you also. Great looking family! You were always a strong guy back in the day and I have no doubt you will get through this!! Yes, looking back, Dorthy Spiker was one of my favorite teachers also.
Mike, wanted to let you know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Your journey brings back memories of our families time at Mayo. Your insight of the Dr. makes me smile. They are exceptional people, yet as a rule, dry. You are in good hands and your faith is strong. As you well know, God will take care of you and your family. We will look forward to a steady and full recovery! Take care.
You are a true inspiration. May God bless you richly.
