Saturday P.M.

Not much new today.

We have just spent the day taking turns visiting with Mike today.  My parents brought the kids up yesterday and they all went in to see him today.  It was pretty emotional for him.  The girls were excited to give him the Valentine’s Day cards that they had made.  I’m probably not supposed to say this, but Luke even gave him a hug!

Probably the most frustrating thing for Mike is not being able to communicate.  It took us fifteen minutes to figure out what he was trying to say at one point.

There is also a concern that he is not swallowing correctly.  They will do a definitive test for that on Monday.  I guess they figure food is not essential so they do not do this test on the weekend.

Dr. Meyer will be in again tomorrow morning to determine whether or not he can get out of the ICU.  The Nurse Randy told us that the regular floor will be a comparatively restful place!

A friend whose family is in the middle of a health crisis sent this verse to me and I shared it with Mike.  It really says exactly what I think Mike needs to do:  stand still and the the Lord fight for him.  “Moses said to the people: Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you and you shall hold your peace.”
Exodus 14:13-14

  1. Karla,

Karen and I are praying and sending good thoughts your way. Tell Mike the Lord is on his side, and know that the Lord is on your side as well.

It’s great that the kids got to see Mike last night. I’m sure that was hard for him to not be able to speak with them.

Tell him to rest his voice for the pulpit. God is allowing him to build up his strength so he can continue delivering messages to all who will listen.

Hang in there, we are thinking of you and praying for you and the kids as well as Mike.

Thank you for keeping us posted.

  2. Karla and family:

We are so happy that your parents and children made it there safely with the bad weather we had here in Iowa. I understand how emotional that must have been for Mike. But I am sure it did everyone a lot of good!

Mike is strong and determined, and he WILL be himself again talking for hours I imagine when he gets back to the church for Sunday worship. We look forward to that day.

We are thinking of coming to visit next Sunday if that would be all right, and of course if you are still there.

Thinking of you and praying for you!

  3. Karla,
You don’t know us – we are a homeschool family in Des Moines who became familiar with your current trial through the NICHE newsletter. We have always enjoyed and been inspired by Mike’s writings and his workshops at the NICHE conference.
We have been praying in earnest for all of you. Thank you so much for the updates – it really helps us to know exactly how to pray for Mike and the rest of you.
God bless you and keep you.

    In Christ,
    The Edwards family

  7. Karla,

We continue to follow Mike’s progress with news via Kayla and Justin and by reading the blog. Each post is so encouraging, in its own way. You reveal such precious things about you, Mike and your family! I found such encouragement in the verse you shared in the Saturday P.M. post, Exodus 14:13-14. Thank you for that! We continue to keep you in our prayers.
