An Example of the Fruitfulness of God’s Word

My trip to Romania has already proven to be successful…not because of me, but  because of the power of God and His Word the Bible.

Isaiah 55:10-11 says “For as the rain and snow come down from heaven and do not return but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed  to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

Last Sunday I preached (which is merely another way of saying I set the Word of God loose…every preacher’s most basic responsibility) at the church in Craiova via translator, from James Chapter 1. James begins with  a difficult command: “Count it all joy my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.  And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.  If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously…”

I argued that the wisdom of which James was speaking of here was the wisdom to understand the trials God allows us the privilege of “meeting” in this life.

A man who was in the church listening to that message found out two days later that he had a tumor on his throat and was distraught over this news….But he has found encouragement in God’s Word to seek wisdom to understand this trial.  He will find out soon whether it is malignant or not.  Either way may he trust in the Lord with all his heart and may he receive wisdom from God to apply knowledge (wisdom) to this trial of life.  His name is Dan.  Please pray for him!

From Romania,

Mike
