Mike Speaks…Finally!

Where does one even begin to tell the tale?  Let me start by thanking all of you for your tremendous support, encouragement, prayers and blog comments.  Of course, I am only beginning to read those.  My brain is still somewhat foggy.  After expecting to spend 2 nights in ICU, to have spent 11 sleepless nights there is beyond comprehension.  I am grateful to finally have the surgery and blood infection behind me and be heading off to rehab sometime today.  By the way, it took an hour to dictate this with Karla typing, just so you know how far I still have to go.

  3. Karla did an amazing job keeping everyone up to date, but it is more amazing to have this post come straight from the Pastor’s mouth. You are a very strong man, Mike. I know that patience is an issue, but with Gods help, you can be patient. You will need a lot of it in Rehab.

I love you all and our Church is still praying with us for you.

  4. Mike & Karla:

THANK YOU for your daily updates on the blog. It helps us to offer up specific prayers to our Great & Almighty God on your behalf.

I never thought I would ever find myself writing this (since it involves the accordion), but I am hoping the I can hear Mike play his accordion at the Pastor’s & Wives Retreat next year!

    God Bless You both,

He wants to know if the bad things that happen are from the bad God. All things do work together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Thank You , you are already counciling.
May God be with you today and through the theropy. Its hard, I know, but the harder you work the more you get out of it.
    Bless you and your family.

  11. Mike, Good to hear from YOU. I guess we didn’t really understand how much you could or couldn’t communicate until reading the dictated blog. You will make a full comeback; don’t be discouraged!

Hope you enjoy your new room (as long as you are alone anyway). Try to rest and heal that brain of yours. We are looking forward to being able to see you! We miss you.

  13. Sorry to hear how hard it has been today dealing with the new room-mate. We will be praying for you to get that private room quickly!

Jason said he would say our goodbyes for us since we came at a bad time earlier today (2/24 Tues) and couldn’t say goodbye ourselves… I am sure it was a very busy and tiring time with all the docs, nurses, therapists, and even visitors coming around the same time. Hopefully the next time we see you will be here at home. 🙂

    Keep pressing… God bless.

  14. Mike, Great to hear from you!! Can’t quite tell from the dictation, but wondering if there is any hint of a Scottish brogue accent? 🙂 All I could pick up is a nice Iowa ‘twang’.
    Just kidding of course!
You are constantly in my thoughts and prayers. It sounds like you are receiving amazing care from all involved.
I also wanted to say, “God bless Karla, and the entire Evans family”.

  16. Hi Mike,

We’re home again so can keep up with daily reports. We know God will heal you – only in his time and not our own.

Stay the path – you said it, “The bible is all true – believe it!” That’s what we believe too and remember all of his promises! He won’t EVER let you down.

Love to you, Karla and family,

  18. Mike,
It is so good to have you back on the blog. I know it is just baby steps for you, but they are steps that you are taking. I will pray especially that your progress will continue to get better without these setbacks and that especially the doctors will be able to work out the right medications so that you would not have any more of these seizures. I praise God that you continue to trust in him and know that he is in control, but I also know how much you want to get back to your family and your church. Be strong, Be patient and rest in the Lord. Love you and will lift you up in my prayers. God bless you Kathy

  19. Mike,
I know this is likely the biggest challenge you have faced thus far in your life. But I know you well enough to say that I have never known you to back down from a challenge and this is no different. You will overcome this and before you know it will look back on this with pride and show everyone what faith, trust and hard work can do.
I continue to pray for your complete recovery and look forward to seeing you at the next reunion.
We are all very proud of you. Keep fighting the good fight. I also want to thank all of those who are physically with you now as we all wish we could be. But know we ARE all with you in spirit, thought and prayer.

A distant “High Five” from Texas for making it back to the blog. You are truly an inspiration and source of perspective for us all.
